I’m a man that loves to teach and encourage others
Hi, I’m Duncan Brittain. With 12 years of leadership experience and 10 years in the environmental field, I’ve dedicated my career to improving both management practices and environmental stewardship. Seeing bad management firsthand inspired me to learn the correct way to lead, so I could become the leader I always wished I had.
Currently, I directly supervise four departments: public works, water, wastewater, and sanitation. My role involves everything from building budgets and managing massive projects to overseeing dozens of employees. My primary responsibilities include ensuring the health of the citizens in my city and maintaining a healthy working environment for my employees. With so many moving parts across four diverse departments, effective leadership coaching is essential to prevent a domino effect of problems.
I integrate environmental concerns into my leadership practices by clearly explaining the importance of our work to the citizens we serve. My leadership style is based on decentralized command, empowering my team to take ownership and make informed decisions. I’ve had the opportunity to receive hundreds of hours of leadership training, including an intensive 8-month course through OMAG (Oklahoma Municipal Assurance Group).
Since taking on the role of director, I’ve seen a significant boost in morale and employee happiness. What motivates me most is the desire to leave my employees with a strong foundation of leadership knowledge, ensuring that they can continue to teach and inspire future leaders even after I retire or move on.
Through my blog, I aim to help readers learn valuable leadership skills that will benefit them both at work and in life. I’m excited to build a community of like-minded individuals who are eager to learn, listen, and improve their lives.
